Isabelle Ciaravola
«Etoile» of the Paris Opera Ballet
After a First Prize from the Paris Conservatoire in Paris in 1988, Isabelle Ciaravola (born in 1972), enters, in second division, the Paris Opera Dance School directed by Claude Bessy. She pursues her studies for two years, is engaged in the Opera Ballet Corp in 1990 and promoted to « coryphée » in 1993.
She takes part in numerous repertory productions that the company presents in France as well as abroad (Japan, the United States, Russia, Brazil, Argentina, Greece, Italy, Spain, China …) : Giselle (by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot), Swan Lake (Vladimir Bourmeister), Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake (Rudolf Nureyev), La Sylphide (Pierre Lacotte), Coppélia (Patrice Bart) and again Etudes (Herald Lander), The Four Temperaments, Agon (George Balanchine), Suite en blanc (Serge Lifar), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (John Neumeier)…
She also dances in the ballets The Rite of Spring and Till Eulenspiegel (both by Vaslav Nijinski, put together by Kenneth Archer and Millicent Hodson), in Bronislava Nijiska’s Les Noces and the creation of Le Parc (Angelin Preljocaj).
In the « Young Dancers’ Soirées » of the Opera Ballet, Isabelle Ciaravola interprets the pas de six of Napoli (August Bournoville), the pas de deux of Rudolf Nureyev’s Sleeping Beauty (Moscow -1991), as well as Papillon of Pierre Lacotte (Palais Garnier-1992).
Promoted to « Sujet » (soloist) in 2000, she has subsequently added to her repertoire various solo roles in The Nutcracker (the arabian soloists), La Bayadère (first variation), Romeo and Juliet (Rosaline), Don Quixote (The Queen of the Dryads) and Swan Lake (the Dance of the Swans) – some productions by Rudolf Nureyev; Jiri Kyliàn’s Stepping Stones and Bella Figura, George Balanchine’s Jewels/Emeralds (the first pas de deux).
She is also given a part by Pierre Lacotte in Paquita (the role of Doña Serafina), by Roland Petit in Clavigo (the role of the Foreigner) and Passacaille and participates in the creation of La Petite Danseuse de Degas (Patrice Bart -2003).
Isabelle Ciaravola is promoted to « Première Danseuse » (principal dancer) 23 December 2003, following the annual internal auditions of the Opera Ballet.
Since September 2003, she has danced in George Balanchine’s Serenade and Libeslieder Walzer, in La Septième Lune (Davide Bombana) and Suite en blanc (Serge Lifar), l’adage and la flûte. In July 2004, she played the principal role in La Sylphide (Pierre Lacotte). In September 2004, she danced the pas de deux of Glass Pieces (Jérome Robbins). In 2005, she is one of the sisters in Nureyev’s Cendrillon (Cinderella), then Vivette in Roland Petit’s L’Arlésienne, and ‘l’Etoile’ in Patrice Bart’s La Petite Danseuse de Degas. In 2006, she has the principal roles of Nikya in ‘La Bayadère’, Manon Lescault in NEUMEIER’s ‘The Lady of the Camellias’; the ’Approximate Sonata’ of Forsythe, ’La Sieste’, ’La flûte’ as well as ‘Le thème varié’ in SUITE EN BLANC, and the role of ‘la femme’ in Serge Lifar’s LES MIRAGES.
