Kledi Kadiu
Kledi was born in Tirana, Albania on 7 April 1974.
He grew up with his family in an apartment in the heart of the capital city, close to the city’s opera theatre. His parents recognized at a young age his passion for dance. His desire to dance at the theatre on stage grew stronger every day, leading to his audition for the National Academy of Dance in 1984.
He was admitted to the academy, and the theatre became his second home for the following eight years.
In the summer of 1991, in the hopes for a better future, he travelled on a merchant ship to Italy, with 14,000 other people, without food or water. But, when he arrived at the port of Bari he was sent back to his own country.
After completing his diploma in 1992, he began working in the opera theatre as the principal ballerina.
An offer by a dance company in Mantua gave him the chance to travel to Italy. Life wasn’t easy in the beginning. Reality was very different to what he had learnt watching television. However he performed across Italy with various classical dance shows.
After living on tour he moved to Rovereto, then Verona, and later Milan before his final move to Rome where he currently lives and works.
